What 10K means
10K gold is 10 parts gold out of 24, or 41.7%. It’s stamped 10K, 10KT or 417. More than half of the metal is alloy, which makes 10K hard-wearing and cheaper.
Class rings, men’s rings and many mall-store chains are 10K. Because it’s less than half gold, buyers sometimes quote it low; know the melt value before you go.
Is 10K worth selling?
Yes, by weight it adds up quickly. A 14-gram class ring in 10K holds more gold than many 14K wedding bands.
Mail-in buyers that post their prices pay the same share for 10K as for higher karats, while some local shops pay a smaller share for low karats.
