What 14K means

14K gold is 14 parts gold out of 24, or 58.5%. You’ll see it stamped as 14K, 14KT or 585, usually inside a ring band or on the tag near a chain clasp.

It’s the standard for engagement rings, wedding bands and everyday chains in the US because it holds up to daily wear better than 18K.

Before you sell 14K

Weigh it on a kitchen scale in grams. Remove stones if you can, or ask the buyer to weigh the metal without them; stones aren’t gold and only add weight.

Check the stamp with your phone’s zoom. 14K GF, 14K GP or 14K HGE means gold filled or plated, which is worth a small fraction of solid 14K.
